HISTORY

Founded in February of 2001 by Amanda Exley Lower, Duende Dance Theater, Inc. is a not for profit modern dance and theater company. “Duende” is a Spanish word for “spirit”.  When a flamenco dancer performs with passion, clarity, and guts, the audience will praise them by shouting “Duende!”.  Duende Dance Theater, Inc. promotes public understanding, appreciation, and the practice of the art form of dance.  Through professional venues, classrooms, and community centers, Duende brings professional modern dance to the Chicago community and beyond. 

Duende is proud to feature performers from the Chicago area.  The performers range in age from 7 to 85.
